Al-Shara in a Historic Speech at the United Nations: Syria Triumphs for Justice and Opens a New Chapter of Peace

The president opened his speech by describing the Syrian story as a "struggle between good and evil, between the weak right and the strong falsehood," emphasizing that the Syrian people have fought an existential battle that lasted sixty years against a repressive regime that used the most heinous tools of killing and destruction, including chemical weapons and barrel bombs, causing the displacement of nearly 14 million citizens and the destruction of two million homes.
He confirmed that the Syrian people triumphed in a swift battle characterized by mercy and forgiveness, without displacement or killing of civilians, and regained their rights without revenge or enmity. He added: "We have triumphed for the oppressed, the tortured, and the displaced, for the mothers of martyrs and the missing, we have triumphed for all of you, O world."
President al-Shara pointed out that Syria has transformed from a country that exports crises to a historic opportunity for establishing peace and stability, despite attempts by external parties to stir sectarian tensions and return the country to chaos, affirming that the Syrian people possess the awareness that prevents them from being drawn into division projects.
In the context of transitional justice, he announced the formation of committees to investigate the facts in cooperation with the United Nations, pledging to bring to justice anyone whose hands are stained with the blood of innocents.
Regarding Israeli threats, he stated that Israeli policies seek to exploit the transitional phase, threatening a spiral of new conflicts, affirming Syria's commitment to the disengagement agreement of 1974, and calling on the international community to respect Syria's sovereignty and support its diplomatic efforts.
He also outlined the features of the new phase, which is based on three pillars: balanced diplomacy, security stability, and economic development.
He confirmed that Syria has restored its international relations and begun regional and global partnerships, leading to a gradual lifting of sanctions, calling for their complete removal. Investment laws have also been amended, and international companies have started entering the Syrian market to contribute to reconstruction.
President al-Shara concluded his speech by affirming that Syria today is rebuilding itself through institutions and laws that guarantee the rights of all without exception, to be a model of justice and stability in the region.
