Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Engineer Mohammad Arnous, met on Wednesday with the representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Syria, Muriel Mafico, and her accompanying delegation to discuss joint work mechanisms and ways to support the current phase regarding local administration, development, the return of displaced persons to their areas, and implementing projects to support and empower women. Minister Arnous emphasized the importance of the Fund's contributions in the field of development and developmental programs that assist the Syrian people, noting that the current phase requires accurate data and statistics to assess the citizens' needs. Arnous explained that the current work vision is based on two paths, a strategic one, and a transitional one based on the immediate need to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their areas, confirming that efforts are currently underway to prepare and enhance the efficiency of administrative units to deal with decentralization. On her part, Mafico explained that the Fund works on supporting the Syrian people through developmental, health, statistical programs, and women's empowerment, stressing the importance of activating the work of local councils, supporting decentralization, activating it in society, and providing necessary programs to implement this step. Mafico expressed her gratitude for the ministry's efforts to facilitate the Fund's work in all Syrian territories. The meeting was attended by the Assistant Minister of Local Administration and Environment for Environmental Affairs, Mohammad Ghazal.
