The province of Al-Suwayda witnessed a serious security incident when an armed group outside the law stormed the governorate building, threatening Governor Dr. Mustafa Al-Bakour with weapons and seizing his personal belongings.
The aim of the intrusion was to pressure the authorities to release the detainees Ragheb Qarqout and Diaa Barjas, accused of theft crimes.
After the Attorney General reviewed the incident, the detainees were released in exchange for the governor's release, who later left Al-Suwayda heading to Damascus.
Sheikh Basem Abu Fakhr, the spokesman for the Dignity Men Movement, denied the reports of the governor being detained or assaulted, describing the incident as a shameful act against the mountain and its people.
He confirmed in a statement to the "Taqad" platform that the governorate building was protected by a group from the "Mountain Brigade," but the armed group that stormed it was larger and managed to raise weapons in front of the guards without any physical confrontation or assault.
He explained that Dr. Mustafa Al-Bakour was personally following the detainee's case in an attempt to contain the anger of the locals, and he was supposed to be released on Wednesday, but the armed group stormed the building before the scheduled time. Abu Fakhr confirmed that the governor finished his work at 5 p.m. and left for Damascus safely.
He pointed out that the incident caused widespread discontent among the dignitaries of the province, prompting the local sheikhs and factions to coordinate the deployment of police forces in the city starting Thursday morning, supported by military factions, to restore security and stability.
Concurrently with these developments, members of the Dignity Men Movement and the Mountain Brigade spread in the neighborhoods of Al-Suwayda city, following the directives of the local sheikhs and dignitaries of the province, aiming to support the judicial police and prevent the recurrence of security incidents.
In a statement issued by the media office of the Governor of Al-Suwayda, the following was stated:
In a serious incident threatening civil peace, an armed group outside the law stormed the Al-Suwayda governorate building to extract "Ragheb Qarqout," convicted of several car thefts before and during his presence in Damascus.
The group, led by "Fadi Nasr" with support from "Tarek Al-Maghoush" and others, stormed the governorate building while Governor Dr. Mustafa Al-Bakour and some employees were present in the building.
The attackers brandished their automatic weapons at the governor, employees, and the building's guards after closing the doors, citing illegal demands to release a detainee in a car theft case with whom they have a family relationship.
Under the pressure of weapons and the dangerous situation, the convicted individual was released, knowing that the same group was involved in similar theft incidents.
Following the incident, the national factions of Al-Suwayda intervened, led by the Mountain Brigade, to expel the armed group outside the law. The Dignity Men Movement was mobilized to secure the governor's exit from the location.
We affirm _with all determination_ that enforcing the law and ensuring security in Al-Suwayda province is an irreversible choice, and we will work hand in hand with all patriotic citizens to guarantee its stability.
We will not tolerate any attempt to disturb security or undermine state institutions, and we will not allow anyone to legitimize violence or chaos under any pretext.
