Mills reveals details of the Sharia message to Trump: Syrian openness to "Abraham Accords"

Republican Congressman Cory Mills announced the results of his recent visit to Syria, which included a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa. They discussed ways to ease U.S. sanctions and the possibility of Damascus joining the "Abraham Accords" for normalization with Israel. Mills mentioned that Al-Sharaa expressed readiness to consider the idea "under conditions that preserve Syrian national interests."
The visit, which lasted two days last week, was organized and funded by the "Syrian-American Alliance for Peace and Prosperity," with Republican Congresswoman Marlene Statzman also participating.
The program included meetings with Syrian officials and field visits to various areas, including Jober neighborhood, Sednaya prison, as well as the predominantly Christian towns of Sednaya and Maaloula.
Mills stated in a special statement to "Bloomberg" agency that the visit was exploratory and unofficial, organized by Syrian-American activists. He explained that his meeting with President Al-Sharaa lasted 90 minutes, during which they discussed Washington's vision for easing sanctions on Syria, which only excludes humanitarian aid.
The American Congressman revealed his intention to deliver an official message from President Al-Sharaa to former President Donald Trump and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, without disclosing its details.
Key Dialogue Points
Mills described the meeting as "positive," discussing several issues with Al-Sharaa, such as disposing of remaining chemical weapons from the previous regime and enhancing security cooperation with the United States in combating terrorism, especially through coordination with Washington's regional allies like Iraq.
Mills also sought clarifications on managing foreign fighters in Syria and guarantees related to Israel's security, which still opposes lifting sanctions on Damascus.
Syria's Stance on "Abraham Accords"
Mills indicated that President Al-Sharaa expressed openness to discussing joining the "Abraham Accords," but emphasized the need to set conditions that preserve the country's sovereignty and interests. The American Congressman expressed "cautious optimism" towards the intentions of the Syrian government, calling for maintaining open communication channels.
Mills referenced historical experiences, saying: "Germany and Japan were once enemies of the United States, then turned into allies for global stability. The same approach should be applied in Syria."
He also leveraged his military background in the dialogue with Al-Sharaa, saying: "I told him: Let's talk soldier to soldier, as transitioning from the battlefield to state leadership is a challenging shift."
