Reports have revealed a case that has sparked widespread controversy in Israel, following accusations against a reservist soldier and a civilian for using classified military information to profit through an online betting site, amid suspicions of leaking the date of an Israeli attack on Iran.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense, the internal security service "Shabak," and the police stated in a joint announcement that the suspects were arrested following joint investigations, suspected of using confidential information accessed by the reservist during his military service to bet on military events and operations through an electronic platform.
According to Israeli media reports, the case is likely linked to a bet placed by an unknown user regarding Israel carrying out a military strike against Iran in June 2025, which indeed occurred at that time.
The Attorney General's office decided to file charges related to serious security crimes, alongside suspicions of bribery and obstruction of justice against the defendants.
Although the Israeli army confirmed that the investigation revealed no direct operational damage resulting from the incident, it described the event as a "serious moral failure and a clear crossing of red lines," emphasizing that criminal and disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone proven to be involved.
The Israeli authorities did not disclose further details regarding the investigation or the identities of the suspects due to a publication ban imposed on the case.
It is noteworthy that Israel carried out a military strike within Iranian territory on June 13, 2025, unexpectedly coinciding with preparations for a new round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington in the Omani capital, Muscat, which at the time raised widespread regional tensions.
