Simultaneous operations in West Kordofan and Darfur
Alongside the border strikes, the Sudanese army targeted supplies and military sites of the Rapid Support Forces in West Kordofan state, as part of a series of ongoing military operations aimed at reducing the influence of these forces.
The armed forces also carried out airstrikes using drones targeting Rapid Support Forces locations in the cities of Nyala and Zalingei, which are among the most tense areas in the Darfur region.
Military pledge to regain control of disputed areas
In a related context, the Deputy Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, pledged to continue military operations until regaining control of all areas under the Rapid Support Forces, affirming that the army aims to reach the city of Geneina, which is considered a strategic center in West Darfur state.
Calls for tightening border control
For their part, local officials called for tightening security measures at the borders, including closing crossings with the Central African Republic, to limit the flow of weapons and enhance security control in areas adjacent to the theater of operations.
Ongoing conflict and worsening humanitarian crisis
This escalation comes amid the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, which has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and millions of displaced persons, contributing to one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.
