Japan: New World Record Set for Women's Life Expectancy

The Japanese Ministry of Health published data indicating that the average life expectancy for women in the country in 2024 was 87.13 years, while this indicator for men was 81.09 years.

NHK television channel reported that Japan set a new world record in women's life expectancy for the fortieth time. As for the expected life expectancy for men, Japan ranks sixth, behind Sweden, Switzerland, and Norway.

The Ministry of Health points out that there was little change in the indicator compared to the previous year, with the difference in expected life expectancy for men being 0.00% and for women 0.01%.

The average life expectancy for men worldwide varies depending on the region and health, social, and economic conditions, but tends to be lower than that of women. According to United Nations estimates, the global average life expectancy for men is about 71.1 years, while for women it is 76.2 years. However, there is a significant variation between different countries and regions, with men's average life expectancy ranging from around 60 years in some African countries to over 80 years in some European countries and Japan.
