An Israeli airstrike kills a Hezbollah leader in southern Lebanon amid ongoing field escalation

The spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichai Adraee, announced on Thursday the killing of Waseem Saeed Jabai, a member of the Lebanese Hezbollah, in an airstrike that targeted him with a drone in the Ain Baal area in southern Lebanon, noting that Jabai played a pivotal role in coordinating operations and enhancing the military capabilities of the party.

According to the Israeli statement, Jabai was involved in promoting arms purchase deals and contributed to the implementation of plans to launch rockets and shells towards Israel, making him a direct target of the airstrike that targeted his motorcycle on the Ain Baal - Bazourieh road in the Tyre district, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Simultaneously, Israeli forces launched a series of new airstrikes targeting a building belonging to a special needs school in the Abu Tawil neighborhood near the town of Aita al-Shaab, as well as targeting the outskirts of the town of Ansar in the south, in addition to the areas of Janta and Qusayya in the eastern Bekaa, where sources reported that the airstrikes targeted Hezbollah centers.

These developments come despite a ceasefire agreement that began implementation on November 27, following a war that lasted nearly a year between Israel and Hezbollah, yet the daily airstrikes indicate the fragility of the truce and the continuation of military escalation.
