In a new escalation, the Israeli army destroyed 26 shelters in the Gaza Strip in recent hours, resulting in the death of 74 Palestinians, including seven who were waiting for humanitarian aid, according to reports from journalists this morning, Sunday 14 September 2025.
These attacks come as part of Israel's declared plan to take complete control of the city of Gaza, the largest and most densely populated city in the strip.
The Israeli warplanes continue to target high-rise buildings in the city, accusing Hamas of using them for military purposes, which the movement constantly denies.
* Israeli warnings and anticipated targeting of Al-Kawthar Tower
The spokesperson for the Israeli army Avichai Adraee announced via the platform "X" (formerly Twitter) the army's intention to bomb Al-Kawthar Tower on Damascus Street south of Gaza City, indicating that "there are terrorist infrastructures of Hamas inside or near it".
He urged residents in blocks 727, 786, 787, and 788 to evacuate immediately towards the humanitarian area in Al-Mawasi, confirming that "the attack is imminent".
* Drones target displaced persons and paramedics near Al-Shifa Hospital
Simultaneously with the escalation, video clips documented the moment of heavy gunfire from Israeli drones targeting paramedics and displaced persons in the courtyard of Al-Shifa Hospital, amidst a state of panic and attempts to take cover from the hail of bullets.
* Conflicting numbers regarding the number of displaced persons
As the battles continue, waves of displacement from the city of Gaza are increasing.
The Israeli army estimated the number of displaced persons as of yesterday, Saturday, to be more than 250,000 people, but the Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza denied these figures, clarifying that the number of those who managed to flee south does not exceed 68,000 only.
The spokesperson for the Civil Defense Mahmoud Bsal stated that "the Israeli claims are exaggerated and false," indicating that thousands of residents are still clinging to staying, despite the lack of shelters in the south, where Israel has established what it calls the "humanitarian area".
* Humanitarian disaster and international calls to stop fighting
The United Nations and international parties warned of the worsening humanitarian disaster after the international organization officially declared a state of famine in Gaza last month.
Germany, France, and Britain called in a joint statement on Friday for an "immediate" halt to Israeli military operations in Gaza City.
* Push towards recognition of a Palestinian state
In a parallel political move, Western countries, led by France and Britain, announced their intention to recognize a Palestinian state during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The assembly voted on Friday in favor of a resolution calling for the revival of the two-state solution, excluding Hamas from any political role within this framework.
* The toll since October 2023
This escalation began following an unprecedented attack launched by Hamas on Israel on 7 October 2023, resulting in the death of 1219 people, according to official Israeli data, in addition to the kidnapping of 251 Israelis, of whom 47 are still held in Gaza, and 25 of them have died, according to the Israeli army.
Israel responded with violent military operations that have targeted most areas of the Gaza Strip, leading to the death of at least 64,803 Palestinians so far, most of them women and children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
