A Palestinian was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Shuja'iyya neighborhood in Gaza City today, Sunday, according to health authorities, as Israel and Hamas exchanged accusations of violating the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10, following a two-year war.
The Israeli army stated that the strike targeted an armed individual who posed a threat to its forces, while the Al-Ahli Hospital confirmed that the bombing occurred near a vegetable market, resulting in the death of one man.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that there are "pockets of Hamas" that remain active in areas under Israeli military control within Gaza, affirming that operations continue to eliminate them.
For its part, Hamas issued a statement detailing what it described as Israeli violations of the truce, and Ismail Thawabteh, the director of the government media office in Gaza, denied that the movement had violated the agreement.
Despite the calm that allowed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to return to their destroyed homes and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from some locations, violence has not completely ceased.
Since the ceasefire began, 236 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, nearly half of them in one day last week, while Israel claims that three of its soldiers were killed and that it targeted dozens of militants.
The United States, which mediated the agreement, faces criticism from both sides, as Hamas demands that Washington pressure Israel to stop the violations, while Israel asserts that it informs Washington in advance of any military action.
