The Iraqi Ministry of Communications announced on Sunday evening the ban of the American electronic gaming platform "Roblox" within the country, indicating that the decision came after monitoring what it described as "serious violations" that affect moral values and community security.

The ministry stated in a statement that the platform includes inappropriate suggestions and offensive language, in addition to allowing direct communication between users, which makes children and teenagers vulnerable to attempts of electronic extortion and exploitation.

It added that field reports showed the spread of fake links and unofficial platforms related to the game that are used to steal data and encourage repeated purchases that burden Iraqi families.

The ministry confirmed that the ban was based on the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court, and aimed at protecting the youth from increasing social and behavioral risks, including digital addiction and social isolation.

It also emphasized its continued monitoring and tracking of applications and electronic games that may threaten values or user safety in coordination with the relevant authorities.

It is noteworthy that "Roblox", which has more than 100 million daily users worldwide, had faced international criticism in recent months, as Australia requested the company to take measures to protect minors by verifying players' ages and preventing adults from interacting with those under sixteen.

The company also announced plans to develop stricter verification technologies that include facial recognition, identity verification, and parental consent.

The Iraqi decision comes as part of a broader trend in the region to tighten control over electronic games, amid concerns about their negative effects on children and teenagers.
