The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, issued a strong warning about the health situation in the Gaza Strip, confirming that what the region is experiencing represents a "health disaster that will last for generations," amid a near-total collapse of the medical infrastructure and the absence of basic services.
In press statements, Ghebreyesus pointed to strict restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, which hinders relief efforts and exacerbates the crisis, calling on Israel to allow previously rejected relief organizations to return to work within the sector.
For its part, the World Food Programme confirmed that food systems in Gaza have been completely destroyed, and access to basic needs for food, water, and medicine has become critically limited, threatening the lives of thousands of civilians, especially children and patients.
These statements come at a time when the sector is suffering from a severe shortage of fuel and medical supplies, amid an increase in cases of infectious diseases, and the collapse of hospitals that are operating beyond capacity or have completely ceased operations.
