FIFA Suspends Iraqi Federation Elections and Sends a Fact-Finding Committee

The International Football Federation "FIFA" announced today, Saturday (August 30, 2025), the suspension of the Iraqi Football Federation elections that were scheduled to take place on September 16, with the sending of a joint mission with the Asian Football Confederation to investigate the electoral process.
In an official letter addressed by FIFA to the Iraqi Federation, it stated: "Referring to the letter from the President of the Iraqi Federation dated August 24, regarding the request from several members of the Executive Committee to hold an extraordinary meeting to appoint replacements for the Electoral Committee and the Electoral Appeals Committee, we would like to reaffirm the content of our previous letter dated August 16, which included a request to immediately suspend the electoral process until further notice."
FIFA emphasized that the appointment of members of the electoral committees is an essential part of the electoral process, confirming its refusal to hold a meeting of the Executive Committee in this regard, and requested the President of the Federation, Adnan Darjal, not to call for such a meeting.
FIFA also informed the Iraqi Federation of the dispatch of a joint fact-finding committee with the Asian Federation, which will visit Baghdad from September 30 to October 1, to meet with all members of the electoral committees who were elected during the conference on June 25, including those who were removed or resigned, in addition to all members of the Executive Committee, including the president and his deputies.
The international federation clarified that the mission will prepare an official report proposing the next steps, ensuring that the Iraqi Federation elections are conducted according to the rules and regulations approved by FIFA.
