Egypt: Video of Two Children Being Run Over in Assiut Sparks Widespread Outrage

A circulating video on social media has sparked a massive wave of anger in Egyptian streets after it documented the moment a "microbus" ran over two children while they were crossing the road in the village of Darnaka, part of Assiut, in an incident that shook public opinion and reignited the debate over traffic negligence and driving vehicles without a license.
The details of the incident trace back to a traffic altercation that erupted between a private car driver and a microbus driver over a right-of-way dispute.
As the altercation escalated, the microbus driver attempted to flee the scene at a reckless speed, but he lost control of the vehicle, leading to the running over of two children who happened to be crossing the road at that moment.
The situation did not stop there, as the microbus continued its momentum and crashed into the front of a commercial shop in the village before the driver fled, amidst a state of panic and terror among the residents.
Residents of the village quickly rushed the two children to the hospital, where medical examinations revealed that they had sustained bruises and multiple fractures, while a state of severe anger and discontent prevailed among the residents, demanding accountability for those responsible for the incident.
In an official statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced that security agencies intensified their investigations immediately after the video went viral, and within a few hours, they were able to identify and apprehend the parties involved in the altercation.
Investigations revealed that the microbus driver responsible for the incident does not hold a driving license, and necessary legal actions have been taken against him. The public prosecutor has also been notified to initiate an investigation into the circumstances of the incident and to take the necessary legal decisions.
The incident continues to receive widespread attention on social media, with calls for stricter traffic monitoring and banning the driving of vehicles without a license, in order to protect the lives of innocent people, especially children.
