Egypt is experiencing an unprecedented heatwave, amid warnings from the Meteorological Authority of significant increases in temperatures, especially in the southern governorates, due to the country's impact by a weather phenomenon known as the "heat dome".
According to the authority, the heatwave is expected to peak starting next Tuesday and will last for 72 hours, influenced by the extension of a high-pressure system in the upper layers of the atmosphere, leading to rising temperatures and increased humidity sensation.
Dr. Manar Ghanem, a member of the media center at the Meteorological Authority, stated that temperatures will continue to rise gradually during this week, indicating that Greater Cairo may record temperatures ranging between 42 and 43 degrees Celsius, while some areas in Upper Egypt may reach 46 degrees, and may exceed 47 degrees Celsius at peak times.
The entire Eastern Mediterranean region is affected by this heatwave, which has been described as "the harshest in years," due to the heat dome phenomenon that traps hot air over the region for long periods.
