The prolific British author Len Deighton, whose thrilling spy novels topped bestseller lists for decades, has passed away at the age of 97.
His literary agent, Tim Bates, announced that Deighton died on Sunday, without revealing the cause of death.
Deighton's Literary Career
Deighton's first novel, "The Ipcress File," defined the thriller genre in the 1960s with its distinctive style and was adapted into a film that helped launch actor Michael Caine's career.
Bates said on Tuesday that Deighton "was not only one of the greatest writers of spy and thriller novels in the twentieth century, but also one of our greatest writers across all literary genres."
