Berlin considers the Syrian People's Council elections a step towards comprehensive political engagement

The statement noted that the Syrian people, after years of war and authoritarian rule, are looking forward to actively participating in shaping the political future of their country, considering that the current phase marks the start of an institutional change process based on popular engagement.
The two ministries emphasized the importance of ensuring citizen participation throughout Syria, including in provinces where elections have not yet been held, such as Hasakah, Raqqa, and Sweida, calling for the electoral process to be completed comprehensively.
The German government also urged all Syrian parties to show political flexibility and accept compromises that serve the unity of Syrian territory, noting that reconstruction plans encompass multiple areas, most notably health, education, infrastructure, water, economic development, and enhancing good governance and the rule of law.
