Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir described the massive demonstration that took place in London, organized by the far-right, as part of the "global awakening against the dominance of Islamic extremism, violence, and terrorism".
Ben Gvir wrote on his account on the "X" platform: "The massive demonstration today in London is part of the global awakening against the dominance of extremist Islam, violence, and terrorism. The right stands with Israel, while the morally troubled left supports Hamas and drags the Western world into danger. Europe must wake up quickly!".
About 110,000 people participated in the demonstration, responding to the call of far-right British activist Tommy Robinson under the banner of "Unite the Kingdom", with participants waving British flags and chanting nationalist slogans, amid heavy security presence that included more than 1,600 police officers.
In contrast, the Stand Up To Racism movement organized a counter-march under the slogan "Against Fascism", which necessitated the imposition of security barriers to separate the two sides and avoid clashes. The town of Falkirk in Scotland also witnessed balanced gatherings between supporters and opponents of immigration in front of a hotel housing asylum seekers, chanting conflicting slogans.
London police confirmed that 26 officers were injured, including four seriously, and have so far arrested 25 individuals, emphasizing that they will continue to identify those involved to take strict measures in the coming days and weeks.
These protests come amid a rise in populist and far-right rhetoric in Britain, particularly regarding immigration and national identity, alongside pressure on the coalition government to reconsider its asylum and immigration policies.
