Angelina Jolie Reveals Post-Divorce Struggles: "Painful Years for Me and My Children"

The global star Angelina Jolie revealed new and painful details regarding her separation from her ex-husband Brad Pitt, as part of their ongoing legal battle over the ownership of the luxurious Miraval estate in France.
Details of the Court Testimony
In an official statement submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court, Jolie spoke about the deep emotional impact that the divorce had on her and her children, noting that the events leading up to the separation were "very difficult and painful."
Jolie said in the court documents obtained by the "Page Six" platform: "The events that led to my separation from my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children. When I filed for divorce, I left him with full control and residence of our homes in Los Angeles and Miraval without any compensation, hoping that this would calm the situation between us after a painful period."
Stepping Away from the Miraval Estate
Jolie (50 years old) explained that the French estate has become a symbol of painful memories, confirming that her six children – Maddox (24 years old), Pax (21 years old), Zahara (20 years old), Shiloh (19 years old), and twins Knox and Vivienne (17 years old) – "have not set foot in Miraval again since the events leading up to the divorce, due to its association with painful psychological experiences."
Searching for Stability After Separation
The Oscar-winning star added that she immediately began searching for a new home for her family after the separation, initially renting a temporary house before she could find a more stable residence.
She noted that she stopped working for nearly two years to focus on caring for her children and helping them recover psychologically after the crisis, confirming that she faced financial distress during that time to the extent that she could not buy a house outright in Los Angeles.
Ongoing Legal Battle
This development comes in the context of the lawsuit filed by Brad Pitt (61 years old) against Jolie, demanding to annul her sale of her share in the French estate without his prior consent, while Jolie asserts that she was not legally obligated to obtain his permission to complete the transaction.
Jolie requested the court to compel Pitt to pay $33,000 to cover the legal costs she incurred in responding to his recent demands, which include handing over her private messages related to the dispute.
