Algerian Hacker Launches 140,000 Cyber Attacks Using Only a Laptop

The Cyber Crime Combat Unit of the Judicial Police revealed that the arrested individual was managing a suspicious online platform used to create phishing sites to hack accounts through fraudulent links, exploiting images and identities of well-known figures to deceive victims.
The Suspicious Platform and Attributed Attacks
Investigations revealed that the accused created several online accounts that published fake links and lured victims, allowing him to execute a massive number of attacks, with some global cybersecurity sites documenting his activity since 2020.
During the arrest operation, security authorities confiscated digital equipment including a laptop, a central unit, four external hard drives, and two mobile phones believed to have been used in the operations.
Enhancing Protection and Facing Threats
Expert in information and communication technologies Raouf Belarbi commented on the case, pointing out that all Algerians, especially those in sensitive positions and public institutions, are exposed to cyber attacks.
Belarbi confirmed that the solution lies in comprehensive training and education on how to protect accounts and platforms and deal with hacking attempts. He added that addressing these threats requires the establishment of security operation centers in every institution, led by cybersecurity experts for prevention and early detection of any hacking attempts or ransom requests.
