Italian side AC Milan defeated English side Liverpool 4-2 in a friendly match in preparation for the new season in Hong Kong today, Saturday. The new signing Florian Wirtz, who joined in a record deal for the Premier League club, played his first match for Liverpool.
Former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish laid a floral tribute before the match, and Liverpool players wore shirts with 'Diogo Jota 20' in honor of their late teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away with his brother Andre Silva in a car accident in Spain this month.
Champions of the Premier League fell behind in the 10th minute when Rafael Leão scored after a pass from Christian Pulisic, before Dominic Solanke equalized after 20 minutes with a curved shot from the edge of the box following a pass from Rio Nogomuha, who capitalized on a long ball from Ryan Gravenberch.
Leão also led a counterattack to put Milan back in the lead early in the second half. The Portuguese winger dribbled past Connor Bradley on the left side and passed the ball to Robin Loftus-Cheek, who struck it powerfully from inside the box.
Swiss player Noah Okafor added Milan's third goal in the 60th minute, while Cody Gakpo scored a header in stoppage time for Liverpool before Okafor got his second goal after a glaring mistake between Konstantinos Tsimikas and Liverpool's new goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who rushed out of the box.
Mamardashvili came on as a substitute for Alisson Becker in the second half, while Milan's new defender, Percy Tau, who arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion, made his first appearance.
Wirtz and Nogomuha stood out for Liverpool in the first half, while Jeremy Frempong shone in the second, but coach Arne Slot's team lost to their Italian opponents.
