The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed today, Tuesday, the adoption of a roadmap to resolve the crisis in Sweida Governorate, affirming that it represents an important step towards stabilizing the situation in southern Syria and reflects a clear commitment to the unity of Syrian territory and full equality among citizens in rights and duties.
Aboul Gheit praised the efforts of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, especially Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi, in reaching this settlement by hosting the Amman meeting that brought together Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shabani and U.S. Special Envoy Thomas Barak.
The spokesperson for Aboul Gheit confirmed that the roadmap includes a clear mechanism for investigation and follow-up, aiming to address the roots of the crisis and ensure that it does not recur, emphasizing that the people of Sweida are an integral part of the Syrian society, and there is no future for the governorate outside the framework of the unified Syrian state.
