A high-level Syrian delegation is heading to Washington to participate in meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Sources informed Reuters that a Syrian government delegation, led by the acting Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibli, may visit the U.S. capital Washington to participate in the IMF and World Bank meetings scheduled at the end of this month.
The sources indicated that the delegation may also include Finance Minister Mohammed Yasser Bernia and the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulkader Hsareya, in a move considered the first of its kind in over twenty years, coming just months after the fall of the previous Syrian regime last December.
Details regarding the delegation's entry visas to the United States have not been announced yet, and there has been no official comment from the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the Presidency, or the IMF and World Bank regarding this visit.
It is worth noting that U.S. sanctions imposed on Syria since the previous regime are still in effect, despite Washington granting temporary exemptions for six months in January to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid.
