11 Extra Minutes of Sleep Daily May Reduce Heart and Artery Disease Risk

Study Details
A research team from universities in Australia and Brazil conducted the study, which included more than 53,000 adults over 8 years. The researchers found that adding 11 extra minutes of sleep daily, along with 4.5 minutes of physical activity and a small amount of vegetables (about a quarter cup daily), reduces the likelihood of artery diseases by up to 10%.
Simple Daily Physical Activity
The required activity to improve health includes some daily habits such as:
speeding up walking while moving from one place to another
taking the stairs instead of using elevators
carrying shopping bags
The study showed that getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep daily along with 42 minutes of physical activity and moderate healthy meals provides the maximum health benefit.
Long-Term Positive Impact
The researchers confirmed that adhering to these behaviors reduces the risk of heart disease by 57% compared to non-adherents. The head of the study team noted that the results are encouraging as they rely on simple, sustainable changes without the need for major interventions, although additional clinical tests are necessary to verify their accuracy.
