Google and Microsoft have warned today, Sunday (6 July 2025), against continuing to rely on traditional passwords to protect digital accounts.

According to a report from the technology and smartphone news website "phonearena", Google and Microsoft have urged users in their warnings to switch to digital "Passkeys", which are considered more secure and resistant to phishing attacks.

The report added that "Passkeys are digital credential data used to log into websites and applications without the need to enter a username or password".

It pointed out that "this modern technology does not store passwords that can be stolen, making it resistant to phishing attacks, and even avoids the need for two-factor authentication codes that may sometimes be compromised".

On the other hand, the identity and access management company Okta revealed that "threat groups have begun using artificial intelligence tools such as v0.dev, a platform developed by Vercel, to create fake phishing sites that accurately mimic login interfaces for popular sites and services like Microsoft 365 and some digital currency companies".

It is noteworthy that "these attacks are not limited to regular users, but target large institutions and companies, putting everyone at a real and growing threat".

The report continued that "cybersecurity companies, led by Google and Microsoft, advise users to follow the following steps to protect themselves, which are to activate Passkeys on all supported accounts and to avoid using passwords whenever possible".
