The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that an earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Silivri on the European side of Istanbul.
The earthquake occurred at 2:24 p.m.". It was reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 8 kilometers below the surface.
While no damages or injuries were recorded, residents of the area reported feeling the tremor for a brief period, with some describing the earthquake as "terrifying" despite its short duration.
The Kandilli Observatory, affiliated with Bogazici University, issued a statement estimating the earthquake at 4.1 on the Richter scale, indicating discrepancies in data between specialized institutions.
It is worth noting that light to moderate earthquakes are frequently recorded in Turkey, which is located in one of the most seismically active regions in the world.
The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority publishes an updated list on its website of earthquakes occurring across the country, including Izmir, Istanbul, Malatya, Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Duzce, Mugla, Tokat, Bingol, and Manisa.
