An Israeli security official stated that "the possibility of Turkey establishing a military base in Syria" constitutes a "potential threat" to Israel. According to the Israeli newspaper "Jerusalem Post," quoting the official, whose identity was not disclosed, "the establishment of a Turkish airbase in Syria would undermine Israeli operational freedom." The Israeli official further stated that "Turkish presence in Syria poses a potential threat that Tel Aviv opposes." He added that "Israel, which occupies Syrian territories, is concerned about Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara taking new steps to end the occupation." He acknowledged that "Israel bombed the T-4 airbase, located in eastern Homs countryside, to send a message that it will not tolerate hindering airstrikes in Syria."
