The representative of the World Health Organization in Palestine, Rick Peeperkorn, announced on Thursday that the health situation in the city of Gaza has become extremely critical, with only 8 hospitals still operating partially or at a minimum level, amid a severe shortage of medical supplies and energy.
Peeperkorn indicated that the number of injured in Gaza has reached about 67,000 people, with women and children making up approximately 40% of them, reflecting the scale of the escalating humanitarian disaster in the sector.
The UN official emphasized the necessity of not targeting hospitals, stressing that they should be treated as protected areas, calling for the protection of health workers who continue to perform their duties in extremely dangerous conditions.
