Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced on Thursday that he discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the interest of Kyiv in acquiring Swedish "JAS Gripen" fighters during a meeting of European leaders in the Danish capital Copenhagen.
In a post on the "X" platform, Kristersson said: "We discussed ongoing cooperation in developing Ukraine's future defense, including air defense, and Ukraine's interest in Gripen fighters."
Sweden is currently considering the possibility of sending Gripen aircraft to Ukraine and has not ruled out taking this step, amid increasing European support for Kyiv in the ongoing war with Russia.
The "Gripen" fighters are produced by the Swedish company Saab and are characterized by their advanced capabilities in air combat and surveillance, making them a strategic option to enhance Ukraine's air defenses.
