With $50,000, Telegram launched the first open competition for content creators, specifically aimed at creating a satirical video highlighting Telegram's superiority over its competitor WhatsApp, which Telegram's founder Pavel Durov described as a "cheap imitation." This move comes amidst reports of smear campaigns allegedly led by WhatsApp against Telegram, prompting the latter to launch this competition as a direct response. The competition is not technical or developer-oriented as Telegram has done before, but is aimed at the general public, and the opportunity is open for everyone to participate. Required: Produce a short video, not exceeding 180 seconds (three minutes), in English in terms of texts and on-screen audio content, mocking WhatsApp in a creative way that highlights Telegram's superiority and advanced features. The use of artificial intelligence tools as an aid in content creation is allowed. Videos will be evaluated based on their clarity, visual impact, potential to be turned into memes, and their ability to spread widely on platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and other short video platforms. To facilitate the task for participants, Telegram published a list of 30 features it had initially launched, which WhatsApp later copied. Durov confirmed that this list does not represent everything, as there are still several features in Telegram that WhatsApp does not have equivalents to. The deadline for submissions is on May 26, 2025, at 23:59 Dubai time, one minute before midnight. The winners will be announced in June 2025, with the grand prize value reaching $50,000 awarded to the creator of the best video meeting the required criteria.
