Samsung is preparing to ignite the processor race in smartphones in 2026 by reintroducing the dual-chip strategy in the Galaxy S 26 series, with the adoption of the advanced Exynos 2600 processor in the S 26 and S 26+ models in global markets such as Europe and Asia, while the higher-end S 26 Ultra model will receive the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor in all American, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean markets. This shift comes after Samsung overcame issues with the Exynos 2500 processor that led them to rely exclusively on Qualcomm processors in the S 25 series. The Exynos 2600 represents a qualitative leap in performance and efficiency, manufactured with 2-nanometer architecture and modern GAA FET technology. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor for Galaxy phones will also be produced by Samsung factories and not by the Taiwanese TSMC, a surprise reflecting an improvement in cooperation between Samsung and Qualcomm after years of tension. Samsung's foldable phones Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 will also be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, with ongoing debate about manufacturing between Samsung and TSMC, a decision that may impact end-user performance. Samsung hopes that this strategy will help reduce costs, especially with the rising prices of TSMC chips produced with 3-nanometer technology, which can reach around $18,000 per piece. With this, Samsung is making a strong comeback to the competition arena in the smartphone market for 2026, offering advanced options that combine its own processors and advanced Qualcomm solutions.
