Health experts have clarified that timing plays a crucial role in the body's benefit from coffee, as morning and afternoon are the best times to consume it, in order to enhance energy and alertness throughout the day.
After waking up, cortisol levels, which are responsible for alertness, rise, but they begin to gradually decline, making the period between 9:30 and 11:30 AM the optimal time for the first cup of coffee, provided it is not consumed immediately after waking up; it is recommended to wait about an hour and a half for a stronger effect. Additionally, delaying coffee until after breakfast may be suitable for those who suffer from digestive issues.
In the afternoon, with the lethargy that many feel after lunch, a cup of coffee can restore focus and energy, thanks to the effect of caffeine, which inhibits the action of adenosine, the substance responsible for drowsiness.
However, doctors warn against drinking coffee in the evening, as caffeine remains in the body for long hours, which may cause insomnia, sleep disturbances, and mood swings. It is also advised to avoid it in cases of stress and high blood pressure, as it may increase heart rate and exacerbate anxiety.
Despite these recommendations, the response to caffeine remains a personal matter; some individuals are affected by small amounts, while others can drink several cups daily without any notable issues.
