UNRWA Faces "Serious" Financial Crisis in Syria and 4 Other Countries

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has announced that it is facing a
"extremely serious" financial crisis.
The agency confirmed that its budget deficit has reached around $200 million, threatening its ability to continue providing vital services until the end of the current year in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the West Bank, and Gaza.
UNRWA's media advisor, Adnan Abu Hasna, stated today, Monday, that the crisis is not limited to a specific region, but includes all areas of the agency's operations, emphasizing that the financial situation has become very critical and warns of a possible halt to the essential services provided by the agency to millions of Palestinian refugees, as reported by "Al-Mamlaka" channel.
Abu Hasna pointed out that the agency relies 90% on voluntary donations from UN member states, confirming that UNRWA is "not a company and does not receive funding from taxes as governments do", and that the only current alternative is to intensify international and Arab support to avoid the collapse of its services.
