UN Official: The talk about a "safe zone" in Gaza is a "farce".. and the designated areas for civilians are merely "places of death"

The United Nations described on Friday the talk about the existence of a safe zone for civilians in southern Gaza as a "farce", emphasizing that the areas designated are nothing but "places of death".
This came during statements made by UNICEF spokesperson James Elder to reporters in Geneva via video link from inside Gaza, where he warned of the continuous bombardment from the sky "that instills terror in people's hearts".
Elder added: "The schools designated as temporary shelters regularly turn to rubble, and the tents are systematically burned by airstrikes".
He also pointed to the difficult conditions faced by mothers and newborns in the sector, amid a severe shortage of medical supplies and overcrowding in hospitals with displaced persons.
Elder said in his remarks: "The situation for mothers and newborns in Gaza has never been worse than it is now. In Nasser Hospital, we see the corridors filled with women who have just given birth".
It is noteworthy that these statements come in the context of repeated UN warnings about the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the sector, and the lack of any safe place for Palestinian civilians to seek refuge despite Israeli orders to move them to areas in southern Gaza.
