The public disputes between US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk have escalated, marked by mutual accusations and tension surrounding federal tax laws and government contracts linking Musk's companies to the US government. The escalation began when Trump announced on "Truth Social" platform that he asked Musk to step down as head of the government agency responsible for reducing federal spending, threatening to deprive Musk's major companies, such as Tesla and SpaceX, of government contracts worth around $18 billion. Trump stated, "The easiest way to save money is to end support and government contracts for Elon Musk," expressing his disappointment towards Musk despite the support he had previously received. Musk responded to Trump's threats on "X" platform (previously Twitter) by denying knowledge of the budget tax law project before its rapid approval, describing it as "vile and disgusting," warning that the law would significantly increase the federal deficit. He added that his support for Trump in the 2024 elections was crucial, saying, "He would have lost the elections without my support, how ungrateful!" The conflict escalated when Musk announced SpaceX's decision to withdraw the "Dragon" spacecraft from service in response to the cancellation of government contracts, dealing a severe blow to the US space program, as the "Dragon" spacecraft is the primary means of transporting astronauts to the International Space Station. The dispute did not stop there, as Musk accused Trump of involvement in the files of businessman Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sexual scandals and committed suicide in prison in 2019, stating, "It is time for a big surprise, Donald Trump's name is in Epstein's files, which is why the documents have been delayed," sparking widespread media controversy. On another political front, Musk launched a poll on "X" about establishing a new political party representing 80% of the American middle class, receiving over a million votes, mostly in favor, reflecting his growing political influence. He also supported calls to impeach Trump and appoint J.D. Vance as president, deepening the rift between them. Amidst this open confrontation between the technology giant and US politics, Trump's aides intervened to try to calm the situation. Trump confirmed in a brief phone call that "things are fine and the situation has never been better," scheduling a call between the two parties to reach a peaceful solution. This crisis between the two most powerful men in America raises questions about the future of relations between the government and the private sector and its potential effects on the national economy and US politics, amidst growing concerns about worsening financial deficits and escalating political tensions, with wide anticipation for the outcomes of the upcoming discussions.
