The General Federation of Trade Unions in Syria signed a cooperation agreement with the Public Sector Employees Union in Turkey, "Memur-Sen," on Friday, to enhance cooperation in training, technical support, exchange of visits and experiences, and implementing joint programs for the benefit of workers in both countries, on the sidelines of the 113th session of the International Labour Conference held in Geneva. Both sides agreed to organize a visit for the General Federation of Trade Unions delegation to Turkey to follow up on the agreement's implementation and enhance the sustainable partnership between the two sides, reflecting the development of trade union relations between Syria and Turkey. During a meeting on the conference's sidelines, the President of the General Federation of Trade Unions, Fawaz Al-Ahmad, discussed with the President of the Public Sector Employees Union in Turkey, Ali Yalcin, ways to enhance bilateral trade union cooperation in technical, training, and humanitarian fields, addressing common challenges faced by workers under the current economic and social conditions, emphasizing their commitment to expanding coordination and joint work to serve the interests of workers in both countries. The meeting emphasized the importance of exchanging trade union experiences, expanding areas of cooperation, supporting affected health and educational facilities, training in professions related to the reconstruction phase, the necessity of coordination in international forums to ensure the voice of Syrian workers is heard, and defending their rights. Al-Ahmad also met with the President of the Labor Union in Brazil, Antonio Neto, discussing ways to establish bilateral relations that serve the interests of the working class in both countries, emphasizing the importance of exchanging trade union experiences and experiments in various fields, especially in health and occupational safety, training through digital platforms, as well as qualifying workers with disabilities to enable them to pursue professions that suit their abilities and meet the needs of the labor market. This meeting is part of a series of bilateral meetings held by the Syrian labor delegation with representatives of countries and organizations participating in the conference, which started on the second of this month, aiming to expand trade union cooperation and enhance international solidarity with labor issues in Syria.
