In a painful incident that reflects the danger of weapon proliferation in Yemen, a thirty-year-old woman lost her life from a bullet that accidentally fired from a rifle her 11-year-old son was handling in the Al-Dhale'e governorate in the south of the country.
The Security Media Center affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in the internationally recognized Yemeni government confirmed that the 35-year-old woman died instantly after being shot in the abdomen by her son, who unintentionally discharged the weapon while playing with an automatic rifle that was within his reach.
The Al-Dhale'e police explained that the child was unaware of the seriousness of his actions, and the bullet suddenly came out of the weapon while he was fiddling with it, striking his mother and ending her life immediately, amid the shock of family members and neighbors.
The security authorities added that such incidents have become alarmingly frequent in various Yemeni governorates due to negligence and leaving firearms within children's reach, alongside the security chaos that the country has experienced since the outbreak of war over a decade ago.
The proliferation of weapons among civilians in Yemen is considered one of the most significant dangers threatening the lives of citizens, as similar incidents have claimed the lives of dozens in recent years, highlighting the urgent need for community awareness campaigns and tightening regulations regarding firearm possession in homes, especially in light of the absence of security stability.
