The company "Masdar" in collaboration with "Emirates Water and Electricity" laid the foundation stone for the world's largest solar energy generation project, combining solar power and an energy storage battery system, in a move that enhances the UAE's position as a global leader in renewable energy.
The total cost of the project exceeds 22 billion dirhams (approximately 5.99 billion dollars), with a production capacity of 5.2 gigawatts of solar energy, in addition to a storage system with a capacity of 19 gigawatt-hours, making it the largest project of its kind in the world.
The project will provide sustainable clean energy with a capacity of 1 gigawatt around the clock, with globally competitive production tariffs, and is scheduled to be operational by 2027. It will also contribute to providing more than 10,000 job opportunities, in addition to avoiding approximately 5.7 million tons of carbon emissions annually.
Masdar confirmed that this project is part of its ambitious plan to increase its production capacity to 100 gigawatts of clean energy by 2030, noting that this step represents a qualitative leap in the path towards sustainable energy and enhances the UAE's efforts to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
