The Jordanian Army Thwarts Drug Smuggling from Syria Using Guided Balloons

Media sources reported today, Friday, that the Jordanian army was able to thwart two attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotic substances coming from Syrian territory, using remotely guided balloons, in a notable development in smuggling methods across the eastern borders.

According to an official statement, Jordanian forces detected balloons equipped with rudimentary guidance devices, which were carrying shipments of narcotic substances, before they were dealt with and brought down inside Jordanian territory, without any injuries reported among the forces.

This operation comes as part of a series of tightened security measures taken by the kingdom to combat organized smuggling across the Syrian border, as balloons and drones have become means used in drug transportation, prompting the Jordanian army to enhance aerial monitoring and surveillance systems.

The General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces confirms that the eastern military zone will continue to confront any attempts at smuggling or infiltration, emphasizing that border security is a red line, and that it will not hesitate to protect national sovereignty.
