The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria announced on Tuesday that it has concluded its first visit to the communities affected by the violence in Sweida Governorate, which included tours within the city and its countryside as well as neighboring governorates.
The Commission expressed its gratitude for facilitating access and providing the opportunity to meet with survivors, witnesses, local community members, and their leaders, who provided testimonies regarding potential violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law.
The Commission confirmed that, despite the ongoing investigations, it has already provided preliminary recommendations to the relevant authorities and stakeholders to address the most pressing human rights concerns.
At the same time, it warned of the spread of inaccurate information about the visit on social media platforms, emphasizing that the results of the investigations will only be announced after completing its work fully.
It also clarified that requests are received exclusively through its official website, confirming that it has not issued any public invitations or contact numbers.
The Commission concluded its statement by affirming that it will continue its work through additional field visits and communication with various affected communities and stakeholders, provided that the appropriate conditions are met.
