Colonel Gharib Abdel Hafiz, the military spokesman for the Egyptian Armed Forces, confirmed that the sounds and explosions felt by residents of the Heliopolis area east of Cairo this Monday afternoon were caused by the dismantling of old explosive devices inside one of the weapons and ammunition workshops.

He explained that specialized technical teams were carrying out the disposal of outdated remnants when a sudden explosion occurred, leading to a series of successive explosions felt by residents of the area and neighboring regions.

The military spokesman added that the specialized forces were able to quickly control the situation, noting that technical and preventive measures are still ongoing to ensure the site is fully secured. He also pointed out that specialized technical committees have begun investigating to determine the circumstances and causes of the incident.
