Tehran criticizes the decision of the European troika, describing it as "illegal" and "executing Washington's will"

The Iranian Foreign Ministry described the decision of France, Germany, and Britain (the European troika) to reimpose sanctions on Iran as "illegal and wrong," considering it a fulfillment of American desire.

The ministry's spokesperson, Ismail Baghaei, reiterated his country's criticism of the decision in a post on "X" today, Friday, where he shared a picture of the European leaders sitting across from U.S. President Donald Trump. He commented on the decision by saying: "The United States, which unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2018, has caused a series of subsequent violent events."

The spokesperson's remarks refer to Trump's unilateral withdrawal from the agreement during his first term and his airstrikes on nuclear sites last June.

The European troika had activated what is called the mechanism for reimposing UN sanctions on Iran due to its nuclear program in a letter sent to the UN Security Council, which could lead to the reapplication of punitive measures that were lifted in the previous decade.

In response to the decision, Tehran has threatened to retaliate, hinting at the possibility of withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and halting cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
