Syrian-Lebanese Meeting in Doha: President Ahmad al-Shara' Meets with General Joseph Aoun

On the sidelines of the emergency Arab Islamic summit held in the Qatari capital Doha, today, Monday, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara' held a bilateral meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, General Joseph Aoun, in the presence of Syrian Foreign Minister As'ad al-Shaybani, marking the first official meeting between the two sides since Aoun assumed the presidency of Lebanon.
The meeting, which diplomatic sources described as "friendly and constructive," addressed sensitive issues related to bilateral relations, most notably border demarcation, the return of displaced persons, and security and economic cooperation between the two countries.
It was also agreed to hold a meeting soon between the foreign ministers of Syria and Lebanon to develop a practical vision for revitalizing the joint committees and enhancing coordination mechanisms.
President al-Shara' congratulated General Aoun on assuming his position, affirming that Syria stands at an equal distance from all Lebanese and supports Lebanon's stability and national unity.
For his part, the Lebanese president expressed his keenness to open a new page of positive cooperation with Damascus, serving the interests of both peoples and enhancing regional security.
