Syria Welcomes Swiss Federal Council Decision to Lift Economic Sanctions

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed today, Friday, the decision of the Swiss Federal Council to lift economic sanctions on Syria.

The ministry said in a statement published on its Telegram channel: "The Syrian Arab Republic welcomes the decision of the Swiss Federal Council to lift the economic sanctions imposed on Syria and considers it a positive step in the interest of the Syrian people".

The ministry added that "it sees in this decision a compliance with the spirit of international law and the principles of respecting the sovereignty of states".

The ministry expressed Syria's appreciation for the balanced Swiss position, and continued: "We hope that other countries will follow Switzerland and the European Union in contributing to enhancing opportunities for the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees".
