The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway for the passage of oil and natural gas to global markets, with about 20% of the world's production of these resources passing through it.
Data collected by Bloomberg revealed that oil tankers transported approximately 16.7 million barrels per day of crude oil and condensates through the strait in 2025, with oil exports from major countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, and Iran passing through it.
As for liquefied natural gas, about one-fifth of global supplies passed through the strait last year, with the largest portion of these quantities exported from Qatar.
