Sisi and Bezhakian: Strengthening Bilateral Consultation to Face Regional Challenges

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Bezhakian discussed ways to strengthen bilateral consultation and develop relations between the two countries during their meeting on the sidelines of the emergency Arab Islamic summit in Doha, along with updates on regional crises, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The two leaders emphasized the necessity of resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means, preserving the unity and sovereignty of states and the interests of their peoples, and rejecting any plan to displace Palestinians from their land.
Bezhakian praised Egypt's role in facilitating negotiations between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, which resulted in an agreement to resume nuclear cooperation, signed in Cairo on September 9.
The meeting also discussed enhancing bilateral relations in economic, security, and cultural fields, focusing on benefiting from the shared capabilities between the two countries, based on the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.
These discussions come amid improving Egyptian-Iranian relations since 2023, after years of historical tensions, including the return of ambassadors and Egyptian efforts to mediate in the Iranian nuclear program, despite some regional disagreements.
