French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Baro announced that six French activists aboard the ship "Madelin," intercepted by the Israeli army while attempting to reach Gaza, received a visit from French diplomats. One of the activists agreed to sign the Israeli deportation form and is expected to return to France on Tuesday. The other five French activists refused to sign the deportation form and will be referred to the Israeli judiciary for a decision on their deportation in the coming days. The French Foreign Minister stated in a written statement on the sidelines of the Oceans Summit in Nice, France, that all six French citizens were transferred to a detention center near Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, under Israeli authorities' supervision. The diplomatic and consular team in Tel Aviv will remain in constant contact with the French activists to monitor their situation and ensure their safety until their return to France. The sailing ship "Madelin," part of the "Freedom Flotilla" coalition, sailed from the Italian island of Sicily carrying aid for Palestinians in Gaza. On board were 12 activists of various nationalities, including French, German, Brazilian, Turkish, Swedish, Spanish, and Dutch, aiming to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza due to the dire humanitarian situation after over twenty months of war. The ship arrived in the maritime area near Gaza on Monday evening, was intercepted by Israeli forces, taken control of, and towed to the port of Ashdod north-east of Gaza City. According to a statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, all activists were transferred to Ben Gurion Airport for deportation to their home countries. The statement confirmed that those who refuse to sign a commitment to comply with deportation conditions will be presented to a judge for the appropriate legal decision. These developments occur amidst ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, alongside the maritime and land blockade imposed on the region. Recent international reports have warned of the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza, with UN investigators accusing Israel of committing "genocide" against the population of the sector in reports issued by a UN investigative committee. The ship "Madelin" represents one of the new attempts to break the blockade on Gaza, attracting significant media and political attention, as calls escalate for urgent humanitarian corridors to be opened for the sector's residents after nearly two years of continuous military escalation.
