The U.S. Department of Justice has decided today, Thursday (June 12, 2025), to sentence a former CIA analyst named Asif Rahman to three years and one month in prison after being convicted of disclosing Israel's plans for a retaliatory strike on Iran in October 2024. The department stated in an official statement on its website that "today a former CIA analyst was sentenced to 37 months in prison for illegally possessing and transmitting highly classified information related to national defense to unauthorized individuals." Rahman had previously pleaded guilty to leaking highly classified recordings detailing Israeli military preparations for a retaliatory strike on Iran in the fall of 2024, leading to a change in the timing of the attack. It is worth noting that the Israeli military had announced in October 2024 that it would strike military targets in Iran in response to attacks on Israel earlier that month. CBS News network reported, citing a source, that the Israeli attack on Iran was limited to military targets and did not extend to nuclear or oil facilities. According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, none of Iran's oil facilities were damaged. Axios, an American news site, reported, citing sources, that the Israeli strike crippled the production of ballistic missiles in Iran by damaging mixers used to produce solid rocket fuel for long-range ballistic missiles.
