Palestinian Vice President Hussein Sheikh welcomed the prominent role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France in rallying international support for the recognition of the State of Palestine, emphasizing that this represents an important step towards achieving lasting peace in the region.
In a tweet on the "X" platform yesterday, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Sheikh stressed that the refusal to grant visas to the Palestinian delegation is unacceptable and contradicts the international obligations stated in the host country agreement.
He added that the State of Palestine is committed to cooperating with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, France, and other international partners to ensure the success of the upcoming two-state solution conference scheduled in New York on September 22.
Sheikh clarified that the main goal remains to enhance the Palestinian presence on Palestinian land and to ensure the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence through a sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also affirmed that the peacebuilding process in the region can only take place on the basis of justice and international legitimacy, and achieving a complete Palestinian state.
* The role of Saudi Arabia and France in rallying international support
In this context, Sheikh expressed his deep appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France for their significant role in supporting the Palestinian cause, noting that the efforts of both countries have been crucial in increasing international recognition of Palestine.
He added that achieving peace and stability in the region can only be based on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish an independent state.
* Meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince
As part of the efforts to support the Palestinian cause, Hussein Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine, met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh yesterday, Tuesday.
The meeting, which took place at Al-Yamamah Palace, addressed the developments in Palestine, where both sides discussed ways to enhance Palestinian support in light of the rapid developments.
The meeting also touched on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which is currently facing severe crises, as its residents are officially facing famine under the suffocating blockade.
Plans by the Israeli army to occupy the city of Gaza within two weeks were also discussed, which complicates the situation on the ground.
* New York Conference: A step towards global recognition of Palestine
The Palestinians look forward to the conference on September 22 in New York to be a turning point in the course of the Palestinian cause, especially with broad international support led by Saudi Arabia and France.
Sheikh stated that the conference represents an important opportunity for the international community to reaffirm its commitment to the two-state solution and to end the occupation, ensuring the establishment of an independent sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The issue of Palestine remains at the core of international concerns, and the anticipated conference in New York comes at a critical time to regain momentum for a cause that has long been a focal point for peace in the Middle East.
