The Israeli army announces control over 40% of the city of Gaza amid international accusations of committing genocide

The spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichai Adraee, announced that Israeli forces now control 40% of the city of Gaza as part of an ongoing military operation against Hamas.
Adraee confirmed that Israeli forces have recovered the bodies of ten hostages since the beginning of the military operation dubbed "Gideon's Chariots." He added that "evacuating the city of Gaza is inevitable," noting that families moving south "will receive humanitarian aid," including tents and designated areas for food distribution and new water lines.
In a related context, Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, stated that the army "is preparing for the continuation of the war" and will work to "intensify and deepen combat operations." Israeli media reports last month quoted military leaders predicting that fighting in the city of Gaza would continue until 2026, after the defense minister approved a plan to "occupy" the city.
On the other hand, international academic organizations have intensified their criticism of Israel, as the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) announced that it has determined that "Israel's policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal criteria for defining the crime of genocide" according to the United Nations Convention of 1948. The decision was supported by 86% of the 500 members of the association.
